United Airlines faced a brief nationwide ground stop affecting its flights in the United States and Canada on Tuesday, which lasted approximately one hour. The airline attributed the issue to a software update that caused a widespread slowdown in its technology systems.
Fortunately, no flights already in the air were impacted,
and United Airlines assured that cybersecurity concerns were not a factor in
this incident. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the
airline had requested the ground stop.
United Airlines later issued a statement stating that they
had identified a solution to the technology problem and had resumed normal
flight operations around 12:45 p.m. CT. The airline also mentioned that they
were actively assisting affected passengers to get to their destinations as
swiftly as possible.
